A Heap of Anime News Arrived Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season present a plethora of pastimes much better than catching up on the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in delicious food, and employing patience techniques to not yelling at family members. Hopefully you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments surfaced over the holidays, and just in case you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt the series' continuation. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which might be a hopeful indicator. However, the main art for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they could be trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now the community is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio renowned for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has yet to be revealed.
